It’s day one of NaPoWriMo. Today’s poem is a haiku I’ve titled “Refuges.” I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Refuges
A Haiku
Feet beat hot pavement
An aimless walk to nowhere
An endless journey
Sun-scorched flesh blisters
Sweat slithers a nasty trail
Brutal discomfort
No, we can’t stop here
My words provoke raspy cries
From parched hungry mouths
Doors barred against us
Fearful eyes stare watchfully
Willing us to leave
Poor unwanted babes
Innocence lost with each step
My young refuges
Beautiful
