NaPoWriMo: The Words

Hello, everyone! It’s NaPoWriMo Day Two. After hours of battling with the daily writing prompt, I decided to do some free writing. The result is the following poem which describes my struggle.

The Words

Words repeating in my mind
Ones I’ve used a million times
Tired phrases maybe borrowed
Cacophony of useless rhymes

Words I’ve used a million times
Never settling, spinning round
I try to fly up to their level
But my feet are rooted to the ground

Never settling, spinning round
Out of reach of grasping fingers
The words continue to defy me
And my sense of irritation lingers

Out of reach of grasping fingers
The words’ wild spinning stills and slows
They seem to have their own agenda
As they settle into patterned rows

The words’ wild spinning stills and slows
My fingers type a frenzied pace
The words and I collaborate
Now poetry adorns this space
