For the Love of Geoffrey

I’ve never done this before, and I probably won’t do this again. I’m asking my blog followers to help my son’s dog if they can. Geoffrey is a five-year-old Corgi mix that is probably the most adorable dog I’ve ever seen. Since my son adopted him from the shelter four years ago, Geoffrey has led a very active life. Chris and Geoffrey surf together, take walks on the dog beach together, and enjoy Waffle-fry-Wednesday.

Over the past four years, Geoffrey has been a regular visitor at the Vet’s office. He suffers from chronic skin problems and allergies. Chris has always been vigilant about seeking out medical care for his best friend and will ignore his own needs to make sure Geoffrey is taken care of.

Now Chris and Geoffrey need our help. Two weeks ago, Geoffrey began having seizures and displayed a lack of mobility in his back legs. After a series of medical tests and x-rays, it was determined that Geoffrey has a ruptured disc and is now facing the possibility of total paralysis. The veterinarian has recommended surgery in order to save Geoffrey, but with a price tag of $5000 to $7000, this is impossible for our family to afford. Right now, Geoffrey is pain-free thanks to pain medication and steroid shots, but he is unable to play or enjoy the activities he used to enjoy. Unless he receives the life-saving surgery, Geoffrey’s condition is going to deteriorate. Chris faces the very real possibility of having to have Geoffrey put to sleep.

My mother has started a Go Fund Me campaign in hopes that we can raise money for Geoffrey’s ongoing medical care. If we’re fortunate, we’ll be able to raise enough money for Geoffrey to have the surgery he so desperately needs.

Some people might think it’s ridiculous to go to such extreme measures to save a dog, but I disagree. If you’ve ever loved an animal companion, you’ll know they’re worth it. They’re family.

If you can help by donating even a dollar, my family will be eternally grateful. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this post via Facebook or Twitter. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give.

  1. We had a dog–a very beloved friend who was really part of our family–who went through the same thing. It’s so hard to watch them suffer. I will share this post.

    • Thanks for sharing, Gwen. We had to put our dog, Rudy, to sleep two years ago. It was the hardest think I’ve ever had to do. Rudy had similar problems to Geoffrey, but was much older. The vet told us that in Rudy’s case, his heart couldn’t handle surgery, so that wasn’t an option for him. Dogs really do become part of your family.

  2. Reblogged this on Gwen Bristol and commented:
If you know what it’s like to really love a dog or any other pet, you can feel for what these nice people are going through. Please donate if you can, and if you can’t, please share this wherever you feel comfortable.
