Today’s Throwback Thursday post is running a little late. It’s almost midnight here in my neck of the woods. I almost didn’t write this post, but it seems wrong to let this day disintegrate without paying tribute to Rudy, our wonderful, faithful, loving companion. Rudy was put to rest two years ago today. I wrote the following haiku the morning after we said goodbye to my very best friend in the world. Through eyes swollen with grief and misery, I wrote this very brief tribute:
I open my eyes
And a bleak, sad day unfolds
I miss you, Rudy
There isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t think about and miss Rudy. He was my little angel. I miss you, Rudy. I’ll love you always.
I’m sorry. I lost my dog more than 10 years ago, and I’m still in mourning.

I don’t think it’s something you ever get over. With time, I cry less, but I still feel his loss and always will. I’m sorry for your loss, Carmen.

I’m so sorry, Tricia. I’ve lost a bunch of my kitties over the years (through death, divorce, and other things), and I still miss them all every single day. *hugs*

We’ve got kitties too and I know I’d miss them terribly if they were gone. Animals are the best.

Tricia, I also know what it is like to lose your furever friend. I love animals, and have had to say good-bye to many over the years. I have to rescue dachshunds who I love dearly, and it will be hard to day good-bye to them. All we can do is love them daily, and make each day count.

It’s terrible saying goodbye. You’re doing a wonderful thing by giving rescue dogs a good home.
